Family Background:
Adopted son of William Carradice (of Burnopfield, Durham) and his wife, Elizabeth Armstrong (of Carlisle) early childhood spent in Malta where his father had seen service as a Stoker in the Royal Navy in WWI and subsequently was the Institute Steward at Connaught House in Floriana (home for sailors and soldiers). The family returned to Carlisle after 1925 and settled in Caldewgate.Husband of Eileen Butterfield, ofStanwix, Carlisle.[1]. They were married on 26th May 1944 in Yeovil, Somerset.
[1] The Truro address was that of my parents** (Eileen and Jack Grainger) in the early 50s – they married in April 1947. I suspect this may have been the reference address when the tombstone was erected?
