The target area was covered by cloud and success was limited. 18 of the Lancasters failed to return. John&#8217;s aeroplane took off from RAF Bottesford at 1708 and crashed at 2030 hours 3 km NW of Rixfoerde. John was one of six crew members to die. One crew member survived to be taken prisoner.<\/p>\n<p>This was the last bombing raid on Hanover.<\/p>\n<p>Reported missing as a result of operations on Oct. 18<sup>th<\/sup> over Hanover.
