The family moved around constantly so have been difficult to trace. Henry and one sister were born in Kent. His other three siblings were born at Windlesham and Kensington. The family eventually settled at Crediton, Devon. His father was a solicitor, born in India where his father was Physician General for H.M. Bombay Army. Henry\u2019s paternal grandmother, Margueretta Leslie was born \u201c<em>at sea off Malta<\/em>\u201c; her family probably came from Scotland The Dobsons were more settled, having lived in the Selby area of Yorkshire for at least two generations. He gained his BA in 1900. He then became a languages teacher, firstly at Carlisle Grammar School, then at Coatham School, at a school in Paris,\u00a0at Shrewsbury School, Kimberley Boys High School, South Africa, Wakefield Grammar School and University College School, London.<\/p>    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- \/module text -->        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                    <\/div><!-- .accordion-content -->\n        <\/li>\n            <li>\n            <div class=\"accordion-title tf_rel\">\n                <a href=\"#acc-152e2ca-2\" class=\"tb_title_accordion\" aria-controls=\"acc-152e2ca-2-content\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n                                                            War Service:                <\/a>\n            <\/div><!-- .accordion-title -->\n            <div id=\"acc-152e2ca-2-content\" data-id=\"acc-152e2ca-2\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"accordion-content tf_hide tf_clearfix\">\n                        <div  data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_subrow themify_builder_sub_row tf_w col_align_top tb_col_count_1 tb_30ip215\">\n                <div  data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_column sub_column tb_52ug215 first\">\n                    <!-- module text -->\n<div  class=\"module module-text tb_32w6215   \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n        <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n        <p>Henry enlisted on October 6 1914 in the Royal Fusiliers. He went to France over a year later on November 14 1915 as part of the British Expeditionary Force and was there for four months before returning to England to attend cadet school. He was given his commission as a second lieutenant in the Duke of Cornwall\u2019s Light Infantry on July 6 1916. On enlistment he was described as 5ft 11\u2033 tall, weighing 154lb, with brown hair and blue eyes. \u00a0He died in a raid on enemy trenches eight months after receiving his commission, and is buried at Bethune Town Cemetery, France. Henry\u2019s only brother, Francis Edgecumbe Edwardes, was a master at Harrow School for nearly 20 years. He taught mathematics and science. \u00a0Francis was the executor of Henry\u2019s will, Henry left \u00a0his \u00a3485 7s 6d \u00a0to be shared equally between his three sisters.<\/p>\n<p>In Henry\u2019s file at the National Archives there is a letter from Miss M. Greenwood dated October 4 1917 it says<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Sir,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I should esteem it a favour if you could let me know the whereabouts of Henry Frederick Edgecumbe Edwards (Lt) of the Duke of Cornwall\u2019s Light Infantry as my letters do not appear to be reaching him\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She was sent a reply two weeks later which started \u201c<em>I regret to inform you\u2026\u2026.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whoever she was she can\u2019t have known his family but at least she was not left wondering what had happened to him.<\/p>\n<p>His death was reported in the Western Times Newspaper on the 17th February 1917 \u2013 \u201c<em>Second Lieut, Henry F.E.
